What to look for when buying a projector

Contrast Ratio

The contrast ratio is the difference between light and dark on a screen expressed by a number.

If you use the brightest white on a screen and the darkest black level and compare the luminosity, you will get the contrast ratio.

Ex: contrast ratio of 10000:1 means that the brightest white is 1000x brighter than the darkest black level.

Resolution

Resolution is the number of dots or pixels used to display an image.

A high resolution projector means more pixels are used to create the image, resulting in a cleaner, higher quality image.

For home theaters, a high resolution is ideal for animation, sports, or fast-motion pictures (such as action movies).

The resolution is displayed as two numbers corresponding to the width and height.

Ex: a resolution of 1920 x 1200 says that there are 1,920 dots horizontally (width) and 1,200 points vertically (height) for a total of 2,304,000 dots.
